While the melody of a Puccini aria or a Verdi chorus speaks to the heart, there is a profound magic that happens when you understand the poetry of the libretto in its original form.

A Unique Linguistic Journey

Last year, I had the pleasure of leading a specialized course, Italian for Opera Lovers Course, through the Guildford Institute. It wasn't just a language class; it was a deep dive into the dramatic, archaic, and deeply emotional Italian that standard textbooks often overlook.

We explored how a single choice of word can shift the stakes of a scene and why the rhythm of the Italian language is so intrinsically linked to the music written for it.

Testing the Waters for a July Return of our Italian for Opera Lovers courses

As we approach the summer festival season—from the local stages of the UK to the grand arenas of Italy—I am considering bringing this course back for a special session this July.

Before we raise the curtain, I am looking to gauge interest. This course is designed for:

  • Opera enthusiasts  who want to stop relying on translations.

  • Language learners who want to explore a more poetic, historical side of Italian.

  • Music lovers who want to enhance their appreciation for the art form.

Will You Join Us?

I would love to hear from you if this is something you would like to participate in. Whether you attended last year and want to dive deeper, or you’re a complete beginner curious about the world of the libretto, your feedback is essential.

How to express your interest:

If there is enough interest, I look forward to exploring the passion and precision of the Italian opera with you very soon.
