Quick facts:

- Region: Lazio

- Founded: 753 BC

- Mayor: Roberto Gualtieri

- Population (roughly): 4,4 Million

With its rich and intense history, Rome is the third most visited city in Europe and the fourteenth in the world.

Why and by whom was it called 'the Eternal city'? - The ancient Romans believed that no matter what happened, this special city would always remain standing and would survive everything else that happened in the world.

Places worth visiting:

The Colosseum: The main symbol of Rome holds almost 2,000 years of history. In ancient times, during the Roman Empire, it would host more than 50,000 people taking pleasure in watching the exhibitions of exotic animals, executions of prisoners, recreations of battles and gladiator fights. It had to suffer earthquakes and even bombings during World War 2 and was used for decades as a storehouse, cemetery, church and castle for nobility. Today, the Colosseum counts to one of the seven wonders of the Modern World and attracts 6 Million tourists every year.

La Piazza Navona: The square is not only famous for it's fountains - Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, Fontana del Moro and Fontana Nettuno - it is also surrounded by terraces and restaurants creating a lively atmosphere. Piazza Navona is built on the site where the Stadium Domitian once stood presenting athletic competitions and it could hold around 20,000 spectators.
